The gems are selected from the vast collection of Ruby Clement Jayawardene, a venerable family of miners and jewelers.
These are sourced from Rathnapura and Balangoda, meaning "city of gems" and home to the majority of Sri Lanka's gem mines, with some of the collection dating back to the 19th century.
